Condolences Thread for Friends of Dundalk FC

I just woke to a text with the sad news. Like others, I feared the worst when I read those comments from him last year and unfortunately we were correct in our fears.

I remember first speaking with him in a hotel lobby in Luxembourg on a European trip. He must have sat in the lobby for at least 4 hours to allow people to come and collect tickets for the game, while others were out sightseeing and enjoying the pre match atmosphere. That selflessness and dedication to the club has always stuck with me.

He will be a huge loss to the vibrancy of debate on oriel web.

Very sad that the person who set up this thread is now it’s subject. I didn’t know the man but his posts were always eloquent and well thought out and you could feel his passion. You could tell he was a man of detail and liked things presented well by how he set up posts, he wanted things done properly. I just reread the transfers one for 2021 and it’s quite prophetic. A loss to his family, life, the club and our small community here.

This was the Grevenmacher game HS? I was there, summer 2010, great trip, and you are spot on, he took up the role of unpaid supporters liaison officer out there, made sure all got their tickets.

He was also a key driver behind the BETOP campaign, seating in oriel for home game to take place.

What a fantastic eulogy for an obviously great and unselfish fella. I did not know Colm, never met the chap but have enjoyed his well written and thoughtful posts from afar as Ezequiel. RIP Colm, another great supporter gone. Heaven will be a noisy place.

Same for me in Lux City that day, I only knew him from that day forward and on nodding terms since around Oriel, he was a decent guy and will be missed around this message board. Another loss for the DFC family which of course will pale compared to the loss to his actual family. RIP Ezekiel.

Colm was on this forum up to the day before he died, he really was DFC to the core.

I had a good chat to Des once about the club, and he was beaming with joy when he said he hoped he would be remembered for winning the cup for Dundalk. That was a crazy season 01/02, if it had gone on a few more weeks we would have finished mid table. He was the man who got in Haylock, and others who were key players that year like McGuinness and Prizeman, although the latter was injured too often. So Des can feel rightly proud of that achievement, and what a glorious day that was in the sun in Tolka Park.

I also had a word with Regina, Des's partner the night we won the league in 2014, she knew it was a very special moment that night, such a pity he wasn't there for it.

Really sorry to hear this. I was only on nodding terms with Colm really, but he was such a huge fan on many levels, and such a great contributor around here. He loved a debate! Another great thing he contributed was all the links to the newspapers and websites covering DFC topics, he was a great source for news and interesting articles. Dundalk Takl will be the poorer without him

Like a few i only knew him to see outside of this site but his passion & knowledge of the club was obvious and his contribution to this forum immense, always polite & informed but not afraid to call it as he saw it. He'll be a massive loss to this place. Deepest sympathies to his family. RIP.
